The Junior Journalists Organization collaborates with local elementary schools to deliver six-week after-school writing programs for students in grades 3–5. During each session, students work on building individual writing portfolios, participate in guided peer review sessions, and receive personalized mentorship from high school volunteers. By the end of the program, every participant produces a collection of news articles, personal narratives, and creative stories to showcase their growth as writers.

What We Do

Founder

Lizzy Sober founded Junior Journalists in 2024, launching the program at her former elementary school, Beacon Cove Intermediate. She soon partnered with other local schools, including Jupiter Elementary and Jerry Thomas Elementary, to expand the program’s reach. At Jupiter High School, where she is currently a student, Lizzy established a school club to recruit volunteers and support program sessions. As a child, Lizzy spent her afternoons writing for fun and often wished for a creative outlet to nurture her passion. This early experience inspired her to create an after-school program that gives elementary students the opportunity to develop their love of writing.
